[10] => The Cineposium was held for the first time in Latin America, thanks to the work and dedication of a committee led by the Film Commission of Bogota's Institute of the Arts - Idartes, along with the Bogota Chamber of Commerce. Bogota's Institute of Tourism - IDT, Procolombia, Proimágenes Colombia, the Colombian Film Commission, Invest in Bogota, and the Greater Bogota Convention Bureau also joined the efforts to support the city's nomination and materialize the event.
The Association of Film Commissioners International (AFCI) chose Bogota as the official venue for the Cineposium in 2022, making it the first Latin American city to host the event in its 45-year history. The event was organized by the Bogota Film Commission, which aims to promote the city as a film destination. This mission is crucial for the city's economic reactivation and the promotion of creative, technological, and logistical services in the film industry.
This edition brought together nearly 178 film commissioners and film professionals who experienced an ample academic agenda with industry-leading speakers exploring their sector's latest challenges and experiences. "We are delighted to have participated with the team in Bogota and everyone who worked hard on the Cineposium," said Marjorie Galas, senior vice president of membership and industry relations at AFCI. "The attendance was tremendous. We had very informative panels with excellent guests," she added.
Bas Van Der Ree, the film commissioner of the Netherlands and chairman of the AFCI board of directors, was impressed with Bogota as a host: "What struck me about Colombia was its hospitality, especially the Colombian team at the Cineposium, that knows exactly what we do. I did not expect such a smooth operation, with excellent pace and variety in the panels."
Three thematic axes guided the meeting through nine talks. The eco-sustainability (environmental awareness) component featured Lisa Day, sustainability manager of The Walt Disney Company; Hans Dayal, location manager for series such as Supergirl and Minority Report; and Marnie Gee of the Creative BC Film Commission. The gender perspective component included a panel to discuss the industry's most current initiatives in front of and behind the camera. This panel featured Amanda Blumenthal, privacy coordinator for series such as Euphoria, Marjorie Galas of AFCI, and Sabrina Farji of Cima Latam.
The film tourism component, a challenge for the world's film commissioners, discussed film products as artworks and showcases for promoting locations as tourist destinations. It included a talk with Yvett Merino, Oscar-winning producer for her work on Encanto; Alejandra Espinosa Uribe, cultural consultant for this animated film inspired by Colombia; Stefan Roesch, a reference in film tourism in New Zealand; and Tommaso Campione, executive director of The Hollywood Reporter.
The Cineposium program also included a conversation on incentives and film laws in Colombia. The talk used the series Pálpito as a case study, featuring its producer Ana Piñeres; Juliana Moreno, production manager at Netflix; Silvia Echeverri, director of the Colombia Film Commission; and Ricardo Cantor, from the Bogotá Film Commission.
Other discussions in the program included How reggeaton music videos boost regional tourism with Harold Jiménez (36 degrees), Luis Lizarralde (Sony Music), and Natalia Barbosa (Medellín Film Commission); Case study of Memoria / successful international co-productions with Diana Bustamante (producer), David Melo (cultural advisor Mayor's Office of Bogotá) and Julio Chavezmontes (co-producer); Telenovelas: How soap operas impact local and regional production with Rodrigo Guerrero (producer in La reina del sur), Dago García (VP of production and content in Caracol TV), producer Magdalena La Rotta, and Diana Díaz; Filming in different international jurisdictions utilizing tax incentive programs with Jay Roewe (HBO), Camila Wilches (Sony Pictures Entertainment), Donne Dawson (Hawaii State Film Commissioner), Brian O'Leary (tax incentive consultant), and María Fernanda Cristo (dynamo); and Breaking down territory stereotypes withStefanie Rauscher (Vienna Film Commission), Timothy Odhiambo Owase (Kenya Film Commission), David Cohen (Variety), and Adrian Mitchell (Oslo Film Commission).

[10] => Alina de Cuba tells the true story of Cuban exile turned social advocate Alina Fernandez, known as "Castro's Daughter," born from an affair between Fidel Castro and Natalia "Naty" Revuelta. Revuelta was a Cuban socialite who offered her —and her husband's— money and belongings to help fund the start of the Communist Revolution. Fernandez learned that she was Fidel Castro's daughter only when she was ten. After years of secret visits, her mother finally admitted that "El Comandante" was her birth father. Over time, Alina grew up to become one of Castro's harshest critics, being arrested on more than one occasion for attempting to flee and classified as a dissident banned from leaving Cuba. She finally defected to Spain in 1993, making headlines in major newspapers worldwide, before permanently settling in Miami.
This historical drama is directed by Goya Award winner Miguel Bardem (The Mother), starring Broadway actress Ana Villafañe (New Amsterdam), along with Oscar-nominated actor James Franco (Milk) and Imagen Award winner Mia Maestro (Tango). They are joined by María Cecilia Botero, Norberto Rivera, Alanna de la Rosa, Luna Baxter, Viña Machado, Johanna Robledo, Mariale Ordoñez, Charlotte de Casabianca, Carlos Manuel Vesga, and Felipe Castilla, among others.
The movie script was written by Academy Award-nominated writer Jose Rivera and Pulitzer Prize-winner Nilo Cruz. Producing the project are John Martinez O'Felan and Joe Lamy from Austin-based Mankind Entertainment, along with Academy Award nominee —for The Kids Are Alright— Celine Rattray, and BAFTA Award nominee —for Still Alice— Trudie Styler from Maven Screen Media. Redbud Studios founders Allen Gilmer and Rikki Rushing and Emmy winner Javier Gonzales are part of the production team. Luis Mandoki and Thaddeus D. Matula act as executive producers.
The Colombian side of the production team, comprising 80% of the positions, included Jaguar Bite, led by Juan Pablo Solano and Simón Beltrán, as executive producers; Carolina Arciniegas as line producer; Alejandro Romero in the UPM; Augusto Castillo as assistant director; Juan Pablo Rincón as casting director; Juan Carrasquilla as location manager; Carlos Osorio as production designer; Stephanie Hansen as set designer; Olga Turrini as makeup designer; Daniela Rivano as costume designer; Juan Carlos Gil (Que viva la música) as cinematographer; Boris Herrera as sound designer; and Ana María Gallón as still photographer; among others.
The project was a beneficiary of the CINA incentive - Audiovisual Investment Certificate, a 35% tax discount on expenses for film services in the country, granted by the Colombian government and administered by Proimágenes Colombia. The film was shot entirely in Cartagena, Bogota, and its surroundings, as Colombian colonial architecture and design capture the Castro era in Havana, Cuba.

Turbia on ViX+
In 2023, Cali is experiencing a tremendous environmental and social crisis due to water scarcity. The drought that has been going on for several months and the contamination and disappearance of the city's main water basins have made various inhabitants carry out their daily tasks, trades, and activities amid a harsh and savage context. The city has been split into two zones. The first one, a privileged area with strong security cordons, is the home of the wealthiest and most powerful. The second one, the "dry zone," lacks drinking water and shelters the rest of the population. People living in the dry zone, completely hit by the crisis, have reached the highest levels of violence, unhealthiness, and corruption. Meanwhile, an approaching rain announced in the media disturbs everyone.
This is the story of Turbia, which is now available on ViX+, a TelevisaUnivision Interactive platform aimed at Spanish-speaking audiences in the United States and Latin America. ViX is the world's largest Spanish-language streaming service with a catalog of original series, movie premieres, and telenovelas. The series had its world premiere in the International Panorama Competition of the Series Mania Festival in France. [contenido] => Early 90's, Colombia. The government tries to combat drug trafficking with extradition laws. Maruja Pachón and Beatriz Villamizar –the wife and sister of congressman Alberto Villamizar– are kidnapped by the Extraditables. The police begin a search for clues that could help them close in on the kidnappers, and Alberto joins the operation to rescue his family.
This is the official synopsis of Noticia de un secuestro, a series based on the book by Gabriel García Márquez. It tells the true story of a group of people in politics and journalism in Colombia who Pablo Escobar and his entourage kidnapped during the drug trafficking era in the early nineties. The book recounts the interrelated kidnappings of journalist and Focine director Maruja Pachón; Beatriz Villamizar de Guerrero; director of Criptón news and Hoy x Hoy magazine, Diana Turbay; editor Azucena Liévano; writer Juan Vitta; camera operators Richard Becerra and Orlando Acevedo; German photographer Hero Buss; Marina Montoya; and the editor-in-chief of El Tiempo, Francisco "Pacho" Santos.
Composed of six episodes and co-produced between Chile and Colombia, the series is directed by Chileans Andrés Wood (Violeta se fue a los cielos —Violeta went to heaven—, Machuca) and Julio Jorquera (Mi último round —My last round—). A technical team of more than 250 people produced the film. It included executive producers María Elena Wood, Matías Cardone, Macarena Cardone, and Patricio Pereira (Invercine & Wood); Lourdes Díaz and Stuart Ford (AGC Studios); and García Márquez's son, screenwriter, and director, Rodrigo García Barcha (The Affair, Six Feet Under). In Colombia, production services were provided by FoxTelecolombia, with Diana Camargo Buriticá as executive producer; Miguel I. Littin-Menz and Paulo Pérezas directors of photography; Eleonor Barajas as art director; Ana María Urrea as costume designer; Vivianne Saler as makeup designer; and Boris Herrera, Juan Manuel López, and Yesid Vásquez in sound.
The series stars Colombians Juan Pablo Raba, Cristina Umaña, Julieth Restrepo, Constanza Duque, Majida Issa, Carmenza Gómez and Jairo Camargo.
It was relaunched on March 31, 2022, in Mexico and the United States as part of the merger of Blim TV, Univision Now, and its sister platform Prende TV. ViX+ is a paid monthly subscription service that provides access to exclusive content initially created in Spanish.
Turbia is a six-episode series directed by Colombian filmmakers Oscar Ruiz Navia (El vuelco del cangrejo—Crab Trap—), Carlos Moreno (Perro come perro —Dog eat dog—), César Acevedo (La tierra y la sombra —The land and the shadow), William Vega (La sirga —The towrope—), Jorge Navas (La sangre y la lluvia —Blood and Rain—) and Santiago Lozano (Siembra). The series had its world premiere in the International Panorama Competition of the Series Mania Festival in France. It has won awards such as Best Latin American Fiction Series and the Grand Prize Diseñar Futuro at the TAL 2021 Awards of the Latin American Public Television Network. It was also nominated for Best Miniseries, Best Screenplay, and Best Art Direction at the India Catalina Awards of the Colombian Audiovisual Industry 2022. It was selected at the Los Angeles Latin American Film Festival - LALIFF (2022) in its Episodics section.
It is a production of Colombian companies Contravía Films and Inercia Películas, in co-production with Telepacífico, Blond Indian Films, and Gatoencerrado Films, in association with 64-A Films. The film screenplay was written by Alonso Torres Arana, Genny Cuervo, Oscar Ruiz Navia, César Acevedo, Carlos Moreno, Jorge Navas, and Carlos Tellez.
